Chapter Eleven

Jenna sensed the shifters above her. When Kenneth had left her with the group of vampires, she wanted to follow, but then they’d brought in the woman and child. Goddess, a vampire woman and child, starved for nourishment. It was all she could do not to offer her own blood to the too thin females. Mother and child hovered in a corner while the half a dozen cowardly men kept taunting them. She’d seen the blood bags they’d tossed around, just out of reach of the females. If she wasn’t supposed to be helpless, she’d have flashed across the room and given them a taste of their own medicine. However, the stench from upstairs kept her from ghosting up to route for more of the precious blood. Gah, these bastards needed to die a slow death.

Red eyes turned to her. “Kenneth isn’t here any longer. What’d you say we have a little taste of his latest pet?”

Having so many spawns of hell focused solely on her, she truly did wonder if she might have bitten off a bit more than she should have. Her own powers were at an all-time low after healing Asia and Egypt plus helping deliver four babies, not to mention she had yet to recover fully from...no, she wouldn’t allow herself to think she couldn’t handle these fiends. The shackles around her wrists and ankles were heavy, would definitely hinder a human. Jenna would only have to imagine being free and she would be. “You really don’t want to do that. I ate a fuckton of garlic just yesterday. I can actually taste it still on my own tongue,” she lied.

One of the bastards laughed. “Oh, that is rich. She’d believes the tales like all the other stupid humans. Well, there’s no time like the present to school you on your ignorance.” The speaker stepped forward.

“Goodness, you really should see someone about that...I mean all of you need to see a doctor. Acne is treatable. Maybe decaying skin is as well. I know a really good doctor who might be willing to help you.” She had a moment to enjoy their stunned looks before their fangs flashed down. “Yikes, what big ugly teeth you have, too. Didn’t your mothers teach you the benefits of brushing?”

“Bitch, you are so gonna die a slow painful death by my teeth ripping out your throat,” a vampire hissed.

“Louis, she’s trying to get a rise out of you. Calm yourselves at once.” A vampire spoke from a darkened corner.

Jenna stiffened. She hadn’t sensed his presence, which worried her. “From the looks of you all, I don’t think there’s much to rise, except maybe the stink levels.” She waved her hand in front of her face.

“Ah, you are a funny one, human,” he said, his words almost lyrical.

She barely resisted the urge to flash from the basement, but this being was what had made her allow Kenneth to pseudo kidnap her. Yes, she could tell he was much more than just a low-level vamp like the six beings backing away in fear.
